Work demands seems to have put lot of stress on an individual who is striving hard to get success in his career. But we cannot enjoy our lives with that kind of lifestyle. It has been a dilemma worldwide to find a fine balance between work and life. More working hours, heavy workload and lack of recognition from your employer can cause extreme levels of stress. The more you feel unhappy about this situation at work, you become more vulnerable to stress and, if not addressed, lead to more severe mental health issues.
No one in the world has yet found “Perfect, one-size fits all” solution to handle the stressful situations. The best work-life balance will be different for each one of us because we all have different priorities and different lives.Remember- there is only one thing permanent in this world and i.e. CHANGE. Ultimately you need to do something to change the lifestyle for your own good.
It is important to know and understand your level of job stress as it helps you to find your own solution for the same. Job stress can be defined as the harmful physical and emotional responses that occur when the requirements of the job do not match the capabilities, resources, or needs of the worker. We all have heard about biologically pre-programmed “Fight or Flight” response as it helps us defend against threatening situations. Everyone responds in the same manner whether the stressful situation is at work or home. Job stress for prolonged time can lead to poor health and even injury.
Time management and changing certain work behaviours can do a world of good in the journey of achieving work-life balance. For example: Open communication about what you want, respect your personal time and avoid distractions, embrace the off button i.e. don’t take your work to home neither physically nor mentally and lastly understand to throttle up and throttle down according to the situation. Self-awareness will help you enjoy the journey as much as the destination.
